How to run LED on mains supply 230 volts AC

This is very simple circuit to build.

Parts list

  1. 0.22uF 400 volt capacitor
  2. 1N4007 diodes
  3. 1.5Kohm 1 watt resistor
  4. LED's about 5 to 8
  5. wires to connect

connect the circuit as shown in circuit diagram.

Use only .22uF 400 volt capacitor

the capacitor offers impedence of about 14.4Kohm at 50 hertz which limts output current to about 14mA which is just necessary for safe operation of LED.
The resistor makes a smooth charging of capacitor.
I was able to connect 9 LED's in series.

If you are using mains supply of 110 volts 60Hz than you can change capacitor value to 0.36uF 160volts
